STUDENT STORY

From Freelance Writer to Full-Solution Creator

How Mariana expanded her business—and mindset—with no-code

Meet Mariana Mata

World traveler. Book mover. Accidental no-code convert.
Mariana Mata is a 48-year-old freelance content writer living in Cascais, Portugal (though her heart’s in at least 15 other cities). A journalist-turned-digital-nomad, she’s reinvented her career more than once—with wit, grit, and a bookshelf made of bricks. She joined NoCode Institute looking for freedom, frustrated by years of hitting technical walls every time she tried to launch a project.

“I was excited to realize that finally, I can put my projects online, and I can develop all my projects alone."

The Challenge

Mariana was tired of the cycle.
Clients came and went. Tech dreams stalled. Every time she tried to build a website or launch an idea, she hit the same wall: developers who ghosted, timelines that dragged, budgets that ballooned.

“I decided to take the matter into my own hands,” she said.
Coding wasn’t the answer. No-code was.

She didn’t come to reinvent herself. She came to reclaim control—and add more value to her work.

The Transformation

“I was excited to realize that finally, I can put my projects online, and I can develop all my projects alone.”

Through the NoCode Foundations program, Mariana discovered something surprising: she'd been using no-code tools for years without even knowing it.

With each mission, her confidence grew. She applied her storytelling skills to digital builds, started launching real sites, and finally had the tools to execute the ideas that had been stuck in her head for years.

She built a live directory for a real client project. Then more websites. Now, she’s offering free help to NGOs to build up her portfolio—before pivoting her freelance business to offer full-scale web and content packages.

Respect.
